Conscience Congruency: The Simple Formula For Personal Success

conscience mindset May 16, 2023

Conscience (Noun): a person's moral sense of right and wrong, viewed as acting as a guide to one's behaviour.

We all have one.

Listening to it though? This is rare.

Making decisions and creating daily habits aligned with our conscience is how we find the pocket.

The sweet spot.

The zone where we can lay down at night and sleep guilt free.

Before I come off as some self righteous ar$ehole, let me just preface what I'm about to share by saying I lived most of my life up until relatively recently with some sense of guilt or shame around my decisions.

I chose a career as a Lawyer to impress other people.

To cope with that decision I became an alcoholic.

The alcohol compounded my pain until I became depressed.

My depression led me to resentment.

My resentment got me divorced.

My divorce separated me from my children full time.

It was at this point the downward spiral of my life ended because I finally stopped falling. I hit my rock bottom.

Flash forward 6 years and I am the happiest, healthiest and most successful I have ever been.

I can't go back and tell that broken, depressed, miserable, alcoholic, out of shape version of myself how to change.

But, I can share with you the formula for being your best.

So, let's not fu%k around. Here is is:

You have an internal compass that knows right from wrong.

Call it your gut, your heart, your conscience or even something more esoteric (your higher power)....it doesn't really matter.

What matters is that you have this voice inside that let's you know whether the decisions you make and the actions you take are right for you or not.

The key to becoming "congruent", which is a fancy way of saying "in synch" with your conscience is actually listening to that voice.

You know when you have that 9th beer on Tuesday night.

You know on Sunday when instead of working out you watch the entire 3rd season of Game of Thrones for the second time.

You know "that" person in your life is bad for you, but you let them drain you anyway.

You know you hate your job but you just try to ignore it and distract yourself by buying pointless stuff you don't need.

Each day you make these $hitty decisions against the guidance of your conscience it creates a dissonance within you.

This dissonance leads to shame and guilt, low vibrational emotions that then in turn feed the cycle and make you repeat the same $hitty decisions.

Around the loop you go.

The Only Way Out is Through!

If you're on the carousel of pain I sympathise. It sucks. I've been there too.

The good news is....there's a way out.

Before you hit rock bottom and do irreversible damage to your life, your health and hurt the people you love (trust me this blows!)....there is something you can do to change.

The bad news is....'that' pain, whatever it is deep inside, you have to be willing to face it.

No more running. No more hiding. No more numbing.

We take this $hit head on.

I read a story recently about Bison (those hectic giant buffalo looking things that live in the snow) that said when storms approach, those motherfu%kers herd together and run towards it.

They face it head on and go through it as the quickest way to get it over and done with.

Now if you're ready to get past whatever it is that's been holding you back, then grab a pen and paper and let's make some rules for your better life.

A life where you don't have guilt or shame eating you up each day.

A life you can be proud of.

To do this, you need a code to live by each day. A list of non-negotiables you never break for anything.

This is up to you, it's your life, but here are mine to give you the idea:-

  1. Wake Up before Sunrise & Walk the Dog for an Hour
  2. Write down what I regret about yesterday. What's one thing I can do today to NOT have regret today.
  3. Workout.
  4. Eat a diet to be built and ripped.
  5. Create a daily Instagram Post with the intention of helping someone else.
  6. Take one step each day to build my dream online business to help others with their health.
  7. Eliminate unhealthy distractions (no alcohol, drugs, junk food, low quality people).
