Enlightenment, Getting Fit on Vacation and a Look at my Travel Gym

Sep 05, 2023

At a time when most of my forty-something year old peers are accepting the comforts of middle-age, growing beer bellies and buying electric cars, I'm doing the opposite.

I sold my home, bought a Caravan and a large V8 Petrol Pick Up truck and have shifted into nomadic living with a set of non-negotiables that start with my physical, mental and spiritual health.

Some people say I'm having a mid-life crisis, but the truth is, the things I truly want in this life can't be bought.

You can't buy yourself a better body, you have to earn it with exercise!

You can't buy yourself healthy relationships, you get them by investing time, love and attention into the people you care about!

You can't buy fulfilling work to do, you create it by showing up daily in the world and offering value using your unique skills and talents!

You can't buy inner peace, you cultivate it through your daily actions aligned to a carefully curated set of values and standards you hold yourself accountable to!

All these aspects of life require work, commitment and discipline.

Removing harmful distractions starting with the obvious ones, ie. excessive junk food, alcohol, cigarettes, vaping, drugs, etc is just the starting point.

Beyond that we can change our environments, step away from or limit harmful relationships and implement some positive daily non-negotiables.

I'm talking about having training goals, eating healthy and WANTING to push yourself towards something meaningful and positive in life that adds value to the world.

Is it going to be easy? F$%K No.

Well, not at first.

As a former alcoholic I can tell you the first few months of giving up Booze was HARD!

It felt like I had to sacrifice the only medicine I knew that would numb my pain.

But after I fought my way through the withdrawals, the sleepless nights, the cold sweats and all the nightmares, I discovered a place within myself that I had forgotten all about.

I actually felt proud of myself for the first time in decades.

Each time I overcame the daily urge to run from my pain with alcohol and instead, sat with the pain and just watched it roll through me, I came out the other side a little bit stronger.

The months turned into years and I felt this strength turn into unshakeable belief in myself.

If I could get through that hell, I could get through anything.

I learned that winning isn't done when you get the breakthroughs, the windfalls or the big pay days.

It's done when you feel the pressure most.

When temptation is at it's highest but you summon the strength to hold on for just one more breath, one more step, one more moment until the pressure fades.

Each time you overcome temptation it's a win. You stack the wins on top of each other and use them as steps towards your new enlightened life.

You find gratitude for all the horrible things that made you commit to this path in the first place.

The pain is now an inherent part of your progress. Without those lows, you could never appreciate the real highs.

You find peace and with that a way to "elect" what challenges to take on in life. Instead of being a victim pushed around by circumstance, you start looking for problems to solve. One's that mean something to you or those you care about.

You might fall off the wagon at times, lose hope or feel rejected (in fact it's statistically very likely), but once you've experienced that clear and enlightened state free of suffering, you'll want to get back there to that special place.

Now you know the way, you can always get back there anytime you want.

All it takes if for you to decide.

You have the choice. You can decide right now.

What will you decide?

Right now?

That my beautiful friend is up to you.

My Travel Gym

Now, onto the practical stuff!

For the past 5 months I have been travelling in my Caravan which I tow with a RAM Pick Up Truck.

My movement practice is a daily non-negotiable for me consisting of a walk for an hour in the morning with my dog Coco at Sunrise followed by a harder workout at lunch time.

My current goals are to continue my pursuit of various Handstand shapes, bodyweight strength using Rings, Mobility and Locomotion.

Membership Site Update

I have been busy building a membership site complete with follow along workouts and a library of training resources in the movement disciplines I love (bodyweight strength & mobility, rings, handstands, locomotion and many more skills).

The membership site will provide you with a very affordable option to train with me (USD $30 per month) and have new follow along workouts (30-45 mins) and a range of shorter soft mobility daily practices (10-15 mins) in addition to specific skill orientated videos.

There will be a community section to encourage people to share their progress and offer us all a chance to interact and grow together.

My intention is to offer you access to my way of training with progressions suitable for everyone and for results to be achieved with minimal equipment in a short amount of time.

I am really excited to bring this offer to just as soon as I complete the remaining back end work required for launch.
